From ASSERT as a project
to the assert-project as a global initiative.

By looking at the various pages of this site, you can learn why ASSERT was built, how it has been organised, what were its objectives, and what are its current outcomes.
The vision that ESA and the consortium were putting in front of the scene cannot be fully implemented by one single project, whatever its size and objectives. This vision encompasses so many facets that it will need a long and sustained effort from a large community of actors.
This is why we consider that ASSERT as a project can now finish with its current achievements to leave the floor to a bigger, larger and stronger initiative : the assert-project.

The assert-project initiative as a vehicle
to carry our long-term vision.

Now that a community has emerged from an Integrated Project, and that major achievements have been made thanks to the competence and effort of the 28 partners, we will continue the adventure with the following action plan :
  • To gather all achievements from ASSERT, and especially all prototypes, and to host them in one environment : a showcase for the assert-project.
  • To promote the use of the assert-project technologies towards space projects and other industrial sectors.
  • To support the commercialisation efforts planned by tool developers, so that unavailability of the technology cannot be a break for further dissemination.
  • To gather all interested actors to review on a bi-annual basis the current achievements and status.
  • To plan, propose, fund and execute new projects to support the asser-project initiative.

The assert-project has already started...

Our long-term plan is already supported by concrete actions :
  • ESA, in the Software Systems division, has already started the development of the showcase. It is completed by the demonstrators developed by the various partners.
  • Future space projects that are about to start have already been approached to use the technologies from the assert-project.
  • Dissemination events are already planned in 2008 : the ASSERTive days will take place in January at ESA/ESTEC.
  • Small support projects, funded by ESA, have already been approved and started to develop extensions of the technologies developed in ASSERT.
